About NextGenUs
Locally:
NextGenUs CIC is providing Next Generation Access speeds to the people of the UK via our Fi:Wi (Fibre Optic Over Wireless) solution. The overall aim of NextGenUs is to provide an open and friendly internet service throughout the UK, employing local people and encouraging local business involvement.
Nationally:
NextGenUs is a Community Interest Company (CIC) that specialises in delivering fast, future proofed internet access services to the “final third” (generally rural areas) that are being left behind in terms of connectivity compared to urban areas.
NextGenUs traces its roots to Neoeon – a company that delivered wireless internet access solutions before many rural areas could receive broadband down a phone line. Some of these systems are still in place around Yorkshire to this day where people’s phone lines are too long to receive broadband. This company was setup by one of the founders of NextGenUs, Guy Jarvis, and its activities have since been merged into NextGenUs.
Today, we are a company focused on delivering high speed Fibre to the Home / Premises internet access in rural areas where the big players say it is uneconomical to do so. Many of these areas already suffer from slow speeds due to their distance from the exchange with some not even able to get broadband. Some of the areas we have deployed in have seen their access go from no availability to 100Mbps within a few months of proceeding with the project.
Our company was setup as a Community Interest Company (CIC) to ensure that the interests of the communities we deploy in are put before the interests of shareholders. This is done through the requirements of a community interest company, one of which is to reinvest 100% of profits back into the communities we serve. Where possible, we use local contractors to deploy the networks initially and then work with local IT companies to support the networks to keep everything within the area.
In the 18 months following incorporation, NextGenUs has moved at a very fast pace to position itself as a innovator of both high speed wireless and fibre optic technology to deliver next generation internet access. One of our biggest achievements was the launch of the first Fibre to the Home / Premises deployment in a rural area within the UK. After our deployment in Ashby de la Launde in Lincolnshire, internet speeds rocketed from less than 0.5Mbps on average via mobile broadband to 100Mbps and, after national publicity on the likes of BBC Click, resulted in a lot of interest from communities up and down the country to deploy in their area. Our message is simple – if demand can be shown within a community, we will work with that community to deploy a next generation access solution.
